5-POINT MARGIN
CANTERBURY'S SUCCESS WELLINGTON DEFEATED | (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. Largely because their forwards hunched better and controlled the baft more skilfully under the most difficult conditions, Canterbury broke Wellington's long sequence of successes by winning the return Rugby match between the two provinces this season by eight points to three on Saturday. ! Rain fell before and during the game. Bitterly cold conditions marred good football. Most of the players had difficulty in keening warm. Territorially Wellington had the better of play. They had a two-to-one advantage in the scrums and had slightly the better of the line-outs. However, they were not always favoured by good fortune. On at least throe occasions the ball eluded the Wellington attackers when scores appeared certain. I Bond and McKenzie played oufstand- \ ing games in the Canterbury pack. The backs relied on kicking and made fewer errors than Wellington. Mason, wing for Wellington, was the outstanding back on the field, but had limited chances. The All Blacks, White and Dalton, were grand workers in the for -; wards who. however, were inclined to be too loose. Argus and Bond scored tries for Canterbury, Jackson converting one. Mason scored an unconverted try for Wellington.
