REPLY BY MR. ATTLEE

N.Z. AID FOR- BRITAIN AUCKLAND, August 9. The Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, has received a preliminary reply to a cablegram which he sent to the British Prime Minister, Mr. C. R. Att’ee, and the British Government asking for an indication of how New Zealand could best assist Britain in her present economic crisis. Mr. Attlee stated tiiat his cablegram would be followed by a more detailed statement shortly. Mr. Fraser said that he had advised Mr. Attlee that the New Zealand Government would be calling a conference to discuss ways of assisting Britain and he wished to know the most effective way in which the best results could be achieved. Mr Attlee in his reply stated that he would send a considered and detailed statement as soon as possible. Invitations to the conference, said Mr. Fraser, would be issued during lhc coming week.
