KAHUTIA CLUB REVIEW OF THE SEASON An increase of 30 members during the season, which concluded with the total at 147. is recorded in the annua] report of the Kahutia Bowling Club to be presented at the annual meeting this evening. The report refers with deep regret to the passing of Mr. E Lenihan who had smeo appreciated services as secretary and Messrs. W. A. Robertson and J Haisman and also expresses sympathy with Messrs. W. Spence and also W. L. Bailey, who suffered bereavements.
Referring to the satisfactory position revealed bv the balance sheet, the report states that the receipts increased by £OB2 17- 3d, largely as a result of Lie efforts of members in raising funds through various channels. Expenditure has also shown an increase, wages and general expenses being higher, continues the report. The club assets were fully maintained and plant increased during the year. The balance sheet shows an excess of receipts amounting to £2OB 18s 3d, Congratulations are extended to the winners of championships as follows: Club Championships.—Champion, R. B. Tilly, A. Owen, E. A. Pepperell, Geo Robinson. Centre Championships.— Champion singles. R. B. Watt: junior singles, G. Ardern; champion pairs. G. Brebner and R. Graham; champion rinks, S. Gooch, G. Brebner, R. Hickman, and R. Graham: intermediate rinks. F. J. Chambers, A. Owen, G. Robinson S. Franks. Outside Tournaments The club also took the runner-up position for the Peace Shield and won the Yelverton Shield. In outside tournaments the club won at Hastings for the third time in succession at Heretaunga, the team being S. Gooch, G. Brebner, R. Hickman and R. ,Graham. Kahutia were successful in again winning the Graham Memorial Shield, the team being S Horsburgh, R. Clarke, J. Wilson and R Graham. At the Tokomaru Bay tournament a Kahutia team, consisting of E. E. Esquilant, W. Te Whata. Geoff Weatheriev and H. E. Powell took the runner-up position. The Owen Cup was won by the Kahutia club on the home green after being soundly defeated by Wairoa in the first game on the Wairoa greens.
The report states that the green and surroundings reflect great credit on the work of the green keeper, Mr. Hitchcock. The club greens were used by the centre for all major tournaments during the season. No. 1 green was being subjected to an overhaul, having been found an inch low over a certain area.
The report expresses appreciation of the co-operation of members thoughout the year and of individual services including those rendered by Mrs. Ellis and Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard-Wilson in the organisation of socials, Mr. R. Burt and to Messrs. A. Owen, J. Wilson, N.Z. Breweries Limited and D. J. Barry Limited for special donations.
