REPLY TO MINISTER WATERSIDER VOICE “FACE-SAVING” RETORT (P.A.) AUCKLAND. July 4. •'This typically provocative outburst of the Minister of Labour is not designed to nor will it assist, in bringing about greater harmony in industry." said the national president of the New Zealand Watersiders Union. Mr. H Barnes, in commenting today on the maiden speech in ihe House of Representatives by Mr. A. McLagan. who referred to disputes in the waterfront industry. Mr. Barnes said that when Mr. McLagan stated the watersiders of New Zealand were compelled to return to work without gaining anything he was fooling no one but himself. Mr. Barnes added that the facts were quite contrary to Mr. McLagan's assertion that the watersiders were compelled to return to work to save their faces The public cou'd form their own opinion about who indulged in “face-saving.'
