STRIKE DECISIONS

ARE BALLOTS SECRET? UNION MEMBERS’ FEAR (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 4. The fears of some members of militant unions that secret ballots were not secret was mentioned by Mr. R- G. Gerard (Opp, Ashburton) when the Address-in-Reply debate was continued in the House of Representatives today. He said the Laouur Department should be able to move more rapidly and should be able to warn the Government where unrest was likely to occur. As a measure to curb unrest Mr. Gerard suggested that no officer of a union that indulged in an anti-social strike should be allowed to hold office for a number of years.
