FOUL RIDING

JOCKEYS DISQUALIFIED (9 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 23. Two ‘ Sydney jockeys, T. O. Clarke and H. Hughes, have been disqualified on charges of foul riding—Clarke for three years and Hughes for six months. Each was charged with having seized the reins of a rival jockey during a race. In both cases action was taken after complaints by apprentice riders. The Sydney Morning Herald says it is unusual for inquiries to originate in this way because of the unwritten law among jockeys against complaining about interference. In each case the horses ridden by Clarke and Hughes won the races in which interference is alleged have occurred.
