RIGID U.S. CONTROL

GREEK ECONOMY AID PROGRAMME WASHINGTON, June 20. The Greek Government today signed an agreement providing for rigid American supervision over Greece’s enonomy during the life of the 300,000,000 dollar aid programme. The agreement was signed in Athens by the American Ambassador, Mr. Lincoln MacVeagh, and M. Tsaldaris. The agreement provides that American press and radio representatives will be given a free hand to observe and report on the utilisation of the aid funds and also that the . chief _o£ the American mission. Mr. Dwight Griswold, and members of his staff will c-njoy the same diplomatic privileges and immunities granted to embassy personnel in Greece.

The agreement provides that the American mission will be furnished with proper Greek records, accounts and information necessary to implement the aid programme, that Americans would exercise such functions as were necessary and proper to complete the aid project and use any Greek resources to advance reconstruction and secure recovery as soon as possible, that Greece would not use any part of the aid to make interest or principal payments on loans held by foreign Governments, that Greece would not transfer any material aid or information of a classified nature to any other Government.
