ONE IN 10 DIE

LAMB MORTALITY “It seems safe to say that over the Gisborne-East Coast area one lamb in every 10 fails to survive the first week cf its life,” states the annual report cf Mr. R. Crawford, veterinary surgeon, to be presented lo the annual meeting of (he Gisborne Veterinary Club at the rostrum on the P.B. Agricultural and Pastoral Showgrounds on July 9 and 10. “The problem of lamb mortality in the first days of life, or lambs being still-born, has been brought to the notice of the director of (he Animal Research Division of the Department of Agriculture,” Mr. Crawford continues, “and with the help of some members, who, with great care, kept records of newborn lamb mortality on their properties, seme preliminary conception of the gravity of this problem has been gained. “We have Dr. Filmer’s assurance that as soon as his staffing position allows this problem will be investigated.”
