INCREASE IN PRICE
IMPORTED TOBACCO (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 2. Imported cigarette and pipe tobacco landed in New Zealand after April 30 will cost merchants and, in sequence, the public more than the present ruling prices. This development results from the Government’s decision notified to Christchurch wholesale merchants and Importers today that the subsidies on such tobaccos were withdrawn as from April 30. The subsidies, which standardised the price of imported tobaccos at $s 94 for two ounces, must mean an Increase in retail prices.
