“CASTLE IN THE AIR”

MAN SLEEPS UP TREE BRISBANE, April 6. For 20 years a former dairyman, Edward Thompson, 55, of Limestone Creek, Rockhampton, has been sleeping at night in a visitor-proof hut perched on top of a 50ft. gum tree. Each night he clambers up a swinging ladder which he hauls up after him. The reason for all this, he told visitors was that he could think of no other way to get a peaceful sleep. By day he lives in a two-storey log cabin on the ground. Access to Thompson's air castle is by cattle pad It was apparent that he had lost confidence in his ability to carry on a conversation, and he was obviously pleased when his visitors left.
