VISITING BUYERS SALE AT MATAWHERO PRIME AND STORE SHEEP Light-weight sheep were definitely above schedude rates and heavier sorts were car to showing a hardening tentdency on previous sales when fat sheep were sold yesterday at the weekly sale conducted at the Matawhero saleyards. The entry was larger than for some weeks. Hawke’s Bay buyers competed freely with local graziers for a quality yarding of 2-t'n wethers offered in the store section and values throughout were fully firm. In the prime pens wethers in good l. and f. order realised up to 35s 7d, with others not showing quite the finish down to 31s. The rates for ewes ranged from 24s lOd to 2is 6d, the top-priced pen of four being a big-framed lot in good condition. There was a keen demand for lambs from butchers, the entry being small, and values were from 25s 3d to 27s 9d. Two-tooth wethers took a prominent place in the store sheep section and they were offered to a competitive bench of buyers. Up to 30s was paid and a line of 775 2 and 4-ths changed hands at 33s 6d. Lambs were selling weil between 23s and 25s for lines with frame and condition and up to 26s 6d for an especially attractive pen offered on account of Mr R. Pilrner. Individual prices were:— Wethers.—Two hundred and fiftyfour, 2-ths, cn account of estate M. B. Mander, Waimata Valley 29s 7d; 180, 2-ths, forward order, (p) 30s; 120, 2-ths, many f. and f., <p) 30s 9d; 775, 2 and 4th, "frame and condition, 33s 6d; 54, 4 and 6-th, 27s 3d. Ewes.—forty, 2-ths, b.w. Romney ram since March 1,29 s 6d; 54, 4-ths, b.w. ’Down ram since mid-March, 34s 7d. Wether Lambs. —Fifty, 21s; 63, 21s 4d; 126, on account of Mr. N. Loisal, Tolaga Bey, 21s 4d: C 9. 20s 2d; 110, good condition, on account of Te Rawhiti station, 24s 9d; 175, 24s 2d; 232, on account of Faliida.y estate, back Motu road, 23s 6d: 59, from Kanakanaia, 235; 109, good order, on account of Mr. R. Pilrner, 26s 6d. ' Ewe Lambs.—Fifty, on account of Mr. R. Craill, Tolaga Bay, 23s 9d. Mixcti-sexcd Lambs.—Sixty-five, on account of Mr. W L. Ellmers, Matawai, 18s Bd. , , Some of the catt'e entered in the beef section were difficult to quit and the main interest was shown in animals with finish or nearly ready for the red stripe. Two .Jersey bullocks sold at Til Bs, but the buyers’ valuation of the other bullocks in the offering failed to reach the reserve placed on the animals by the vendors. Jersey cows, some a bit light in condition, ranged from £5 10s to £6 13s. Four P.A. heifers in good order sold at £lO 17s 6d and nine Hereford cows with finish reached £ll 7s 6d. A P.A. runner steer sold at £7 and a Jersey of the Tame description £5 17s 6d. • The entry of pigs was small, and as was the attendance of buyers interested. Slips realised £2 2s and weaners from 14s to 17s Gd.
