RAILWAY LINK

DELAYED VISIT MINISTERIAL TOUR MR. SEMPLE’S INTENTION Hopes having failed of an earlier opportunity to impress upon the Minister of Works, Mr. R. Semple, the importance of the northern rail link to Opotiki and Gisborne, business men and other interests in these districts are now looking forward to a visit from the Minister during May. Mr. Semple has advised the Opotiki Chamber of Commerce that he was unable to carry out his intention of visiting the districts shortly after Easter, but that he now hopes to be in Opotiki about the middle of May. The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce has received no direct advice of Mr. Semple’s proposed itinerary, but it is assumed that he will include a visit to Gisborne. Preparations are in hand to make the most of any opportunity to press the railway case with the Minister.
