BURIAL OF WINGATE

RECOVERED FROM JUNGLE CALCUTTA, April 29. The body of Major-General Wingate, the leader of the Chindits, who was killed in a plane crash between Silchar and Imphal in 1944 has been taken from a jungle grave near the scene of the crash and interred in the British military cemetery at Imphal. When the plane crashed nobody could reach the scene because of the Japanese occupation. When the area was cleared of Japanese a British burial party at the end of 1944 buried the crash victims in a common grave.
