PROBE BY EXCHANGE

ALLEGED BUDGET LEAKS

DATA FOR CHANCELLOR (10 a.m.) LONDON, April 29

At the request of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Dr. Hugh Dalton, the Stock Exchange Council appointed a special committee to inquire into the alleged leakage of Budget information. The Times city editor says the Chancellor’s request to the council is presumably with a view to obtaining preliminary information to help him to decide whether there is a case for an official inquiry. The council has complete disciplinary powers over all members of the exchange, can order all books and records of every kind to be produced for inspection. and can require members to give evidence on whatever matters it thinks fit.
