YACHT’S MISFORTUNES

KEELER WAITANGI RETURN TO GISBORNE With misfortune dogging her on the trip from Auckland to .Namier, tne owner of the A class keeler yacht, Waitangi, Mr. J. R. Killian, decided last week to return to -Auckland, instead of continuing the voyage he originally planned from Auckland to Lyttelton. Mr. Killian purchased the Waitangi at Auckland aoout six months ago, with tne intention of sailing her to Lyttelton. Leaving Auckland some weeks ago the yacht struck her first trouble on the Last Coast, when sire was north of Gisborne. In a heavy biow the yacht's sails blew out, but she was able to come into Gisborne, where repair work was carried out. After leaving Gisborne the vessel got into difficulties off Hawke Bay in heavy weather, and had to be towed into Napier following the receipt ot an SOS radio call. Leaving Napier on Saturday, April 19,- for her return trip to Gisborne and Auckland, the yacht had to return three hours later in order to make repairs to her rigging. She ran into heavy weather shortly after clearing Hawke Bay and some new stays slackened ofl as the result of the heavy strain imposed on them. Leaving Napier on Wednesday, the vessel again headed for Gisborne, arriving here at 1 a.m. on Saturday and tying up in the harbour basin. .Before proceeding on to Auckland the owner hopes to have the vessel slipped at Gisborne in order that the marine growth can be removed from the hull.
