CYCLISTS FINED

RIDING WITHOUT LIGHTS 23 PROSECUTED TO-DAY A large number of prosecutions against cyclists were brought both by the police and the traffic inspector in the Gisborne Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M. In each of the 23 cases, the defendant was fined 3s and costs for riding a bicycle without lights during the hours of darkness Prosecutions brought by the police, represented by Senior-Sergeant G. 3. Norris, were against James Connor, Warren Dooling Francis Boyd Foote, Eric James Dearness. Wi Maraki, Faki Jones, John Millard, George Ferguson, Norman Light, Nola Rogers, Frederick Lyndon. James Allen. Edward Carrington. Hazel Callaghan, Grant Ovenden, Bruce Frederick Duckworth, Douglas Coote, and Beth Cameron. Cyclists prosecuted by the borough traffic, inspector Mr. T. G. Nowell were Frank Donnelly, Thomas Sheen. Bryce Briffault. and Peter Planten. Basil Simpson, who was caught riding his bicycle on two consecutive nights by the inspector, was fined 5s and costs for the first offence and 10s and costs for the second.
