M.P. V. MAYOR

AUCKLAND "DOGFIGHT” (P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 23. A "dogfight” between a local member of Parliament and a suburban Mayor is intriguing this metropolis. The Mayor of Takapuna, Mr. J. Guiniven, at a meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council, said: Dr. A. M. Finlay, M.P., “is only a pup in politics and has to learn to bark before he bites.” Mr. Guiniven was expressing resentment at Dr. Finlay urging borough improvements on behalf of the residents. Dr. Finlay did not take this lying down. He said to-day that he "had no intention of biting,” and if his letter to the council had a bark "it was a very small bark.” Then he added: “1 may be a pup in politics, but a journey through the borough will convince others that Mr. Guiniven and his councillors are sloths in administration.”
