PREMIER’S TRIBUTE DIGNITY AND WISDOM PRINCESS’ MESSAGE LONDON, April 21. The Prime Minister, Mr. C. R. Attlee, in a cable message to the Princess, said: “Your Royal Highness has lived through some of the hardest yet noblest years in these islands’ long history. The steadfast leadership and selfless devotion of the Royal Family shine forth as one of the greatest blessings and surest bulwarks of this land. Your simple dignity and wise understanding have endeared you to all classes.” Princess Elizabeth cabled to the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Bracewell Smith: “All my life I have been proud to grow up among the people of London and I know I can count on their loyalty and friendship during the yeai's to come.” Message to New Zealand The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, has received from Princess Elizabeth the following reply to the message sent by His Excellency on the occasion of Her Royal Highness’ birthday:— “Please convey to the Government and peoples of New Zealand, its island territories, and Western Samoa my sincere thanks for their kind birthday message which I greatly appreciate.— Elizabeth.” —P.A.
