MEMORABLE DAY

CAPE TOWN SCENES PARADE & FIREWORKS PRINCESS WALTZ AT BALL CAPE TOWN, April 21. As fireworks shot into the sky above the illuminated city. Princess Elizabeth, after her broadcast, rounded off a memorable birthday by attending a private ball for young people in Government House, while throughout the Union at many other functions orchestras played the “Princess Waltz,” which a young South African composed. The Princess earlier had reviewed 7000 service and ex-servicemen and women—the biggest parade of her life. During the day most of her birthday presents were displayed on a table in Government House for members of the household to see. Among the gifts was a cake 3ft. high from Boer veterans of Pretoria. It is in the form of a woman wearing the Boer national dress.
