PACIFIC CRUISE

U.S. NAVAL FORCE VISIT TO AUSTRALIA TEN DAYS NEXT MONTH ( 9 am ) CANBERRA, April 23. A United States Navy force of 14 ships will visit Australia on May 17. Ten ships will reach Sydney and four will arrive at Melbourne on that day and the whole force will be in Sydney from May 24 till May 27. The commander of the task force. Rear-Admiral S. P. Ginder. of the third carrier division, will lead the force into Sydney harbour in the 27.000-ton carrier Shangri La. The force will also include the sister carrier Antietam. destroyers O'Brien, Wallace Lowry. Sumner. Moale and Huntington and the oilcs Mnttaponi and Chikaskia. The Melbourne contingent will consist of the light, cruisers Duluth and Atlanta and ' destroyers Lafley and Infrahem. The ships will comprise Task Force 3R. which with a total cnmnlement of 7000 officers and men, will leave Pearl harbour on May 1 on a training cruise to the Marianas, via Australia.
