WAIKOHU RUGBY

PLANS FOR REP. GAMES SEASON-OPENING DRAW A meeting on Monday night of the management committee of the Waikohu Rugby Sub-Union accepted with regret the resignation of the president, Mr. G. Brown, from the position of chairman of the committee. Appreciation was expressed concerning the valued services given by Mr. Brown as chairman and in accepting the resignation, which Mr. Brown explained was due to pressure of other affairs, the meeting expressed pleasure that Mr. Brown would be remaining as president of the sub-union and as a delegate to the committee from the Puha club. Mr. W. Picken was elected as the new chairman. The meeting decided to extend an invitation to the Poverty Bay union to send a team representing the Gisborne senior clubs to play the sub-union representatives at Te Karaka on May 24 and to suggest that such a game would prove a useful trial in view of the selection of the Poverty Bay team for the proposed match on June 2 against Wairoa. Sole Selector Appointed Consideration was also given to the possibility of sending a sub-union team on tour and it was decided to communicate with the Bay of Plenty union with a view to arranging matches. Mr. A. Tremewan was appointed as sole selector of the sub-union representatives. Preparations were made for the opening of the senior competition on Saturday and with three teams available it was decided to commence a junior grade competition the following week, the hope being expressed that matches could be arranged between the team drawing the buy in the sub-union and that drawing the bye in the town third grade competition. The draw for the first rounds in the respective senior and junior competitions was made as follows: — Seniors April 26.—Puha v. Te Karaka, at Te Karaka: Whatatutu v. Waipaoa, at Whatatutu.
