BRONZE MEDAL AWARD
TOKOMARU RECIPIENT PRESENTATION CEREMONY (Herald Correspondent.) There was a large assemblage of dancers, parents and children of the Native School in Tokomaru Bay at the Centennial Hall on Friday night, when the annual dance of the school was held as a finale to the sports day held on the beach. Hakas, pois and action songs contributed by the pupils were very much appreciated. Miss Ngawai’s orchestra provided excellent music tor dancing. In an address to the gathering the Rev. Puha stated he had. been asked by Mr. D. W. W. Williams, chairman of the Waiapu County Council, to make the presentation of the Royal Humane Society's bronze medal to Mrs. Tichbornc for her gallant efforts in saving two girls from drowning at the risk of her own life. This incident happened some considerable time ago on the Tokomaru Bay beach, and for some time a suitable occasion had been awaited to make this presentation. In handing Mrs. Tichborne the medal, the Rev. Puha congratulated her on behalf of local residents who had subscribed towards a gift as a memento of the occasion. The two girls concerned were also on the stage. Barbara Malcolm, on behalf of the Girl Guides, handed Mrs. Tichborne, who was formerly a guide, a pretty posy and Hilda Collier sang "You Will Always Be in My Dreams.” Mrs. Tichborne suitably thanked the Rev. Puha and all concerned for the kind words and the handsome gift.
