MURIWAI AREA

ONLY MINOR DAMAGE

Early reports from Muriwai stated that the flooding had been severe, the water infringing over the flat land and coming almost as far inland as the hotel. Later reports, however, state that the flooding was only of a minor nature and did not reach very much further inland than the lower levels close to the beaches, and the flat land on the sides of the Waipaoa River. Only minor damage was done in the area.
