FIGHT IN PLANE
NURSE ATTACKED DELIRIOUS PATIENTS EMERGENCY LANDING ((11.30 a.m.) DARWIN, March 26. While an ambulance plane was flying at less than 200 feet through a tropical storm a nursing sister was attacked by delirious patients. The patients, a man and a woman, had broken legs and were being evacuated from Tennant’s Creek to the Darwin Hospital. The man suddenly attacked the sister from his stretcher and the woman seized the sister’s legs. Warned by the changing trim of the plane, the pilot turned in time to see the man hit the sister with terrific force, gashing her face. The pilot could not leave the controls, but advised the sister to hit the man with a hammer. She refused to do this, but managed to hold the patient down until the plane made an emergency landing. The patient was then trussed to his stretcher and the flight was continued.
