FIRE PRECAUTIONS
HOSPITAL PLANS MOBILE UNIT REQUIRED MAINS ABOUT BUILDINGS Immediate provision for laying a new main and piping system around the hospital buildings as materials become available, for the installation of a mobile fire-fighting unit, and the thinning of plantations about the hospital where they might be considered to constitute a lire hazard, were recommended to yesterday's meeting of the Cook Hospital Board by the grounds and building committees jointly. The joint committees had discussed a letter from the superintendent of the Gisborne Fire Brigade, Mr. J. W. Kane, and had also met Mr. Kane for further consideration of the fire hazards in relation to the protection of patients. His recommendations were parallel with those put forward to the board meeting by the committees. in reference to the plantations Mr. Kane suggested that those round the hospital would not constitute a danger if they were cut to a uniform height of 9ft. The board adopted the joint committee's recommendations.
