TWO TORNADOES
N.S. WALES AREAS ARMY CAMP HIT HEAVY RAIN FOLLOWS SYDNEY. Jan. 30. Two separate tornadoes brought devastation to Narellan, near Camden, and .the military camp at Ingleburn, causing damage estimated at £32,000. Thirty big army huts were wrecked or severely damaged when the storm swept across the camp. Fortunately the buildings were unoccupied, but soldiers nearby had narrow escapes. At Narellan 15 houses were unroofed. No house was entirely unscathed and about half the village sustained heavy damage. The police rushed a truckload of tarpaulins to the scene. The stationmaster at Narellan was sitting at his desk when the roof flew off "like a feather.” The station storeroom was swept away. A huge tree was
lifted and fell against the rear of the office and a coal loading elevator and overhead bins were destroyed. At Ingleburn buildings were lifted bodily from their foundations and dumped on their sides. To-day the camp looks as if i.t were hit by a bomb. The tornado was followed by torrential rain At Aberdeen, north of Newcastle, a youth was sheltering with a horse and dog beneath a tree when lightning struck and killed all three. Cool Change Reaches Sydney A cool southerly change has reached Sydney after a series of violent local thunderstorms. Temperatures are dropping all over New South Wales, bringing relief to many scorched areas which have endured temperatures of well over a century for more than a week. Another tornado is reported In Central Queensland, where considerable damage was done to the town of Ilfracombe. Several buildings collapsed and two rooms of the hotel were blown 30 feet into the roadway. The heat before the storms reached record levels.
