RUATORIA SPORTS

SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE VETERAN'S POPULAR WIN At Whakarua Park under ideal weather conditions, ltuatoria people celebrated Anniver-,-ary Day by attending a large sports meeting Throughout the day there was keen competition, and with a lack of accidents, a successful day was enjoyed. , The Hunters' Jump, over rickers, brush, wire fences and a hurdle of hay bales, provided one of the most interesting events, an almost pel-feet round by the veteran horseman, R. W. Hayes, whose two daughters also competed in this event, meriting his popular win. , An event of interest was tilting at the ring, in which J. Kururangi. Tikitiki, in two attempts, won both first, and second prizes. The programme consisted entirely of horse events and an appreciable change might have been effected by the inclusion of foot races oi- events for the children, who were present in large numbers. A hard-working committee was behind the scenes providing hot meals and light refreshments. The proceeds of the sportß day will aid the finals of the Mopohnt.u War Memorial Hall, which is being erected on the grounds. Results: — Ladies’ Hack (7 entries) . Mrs. A. Fraser, 1; Miss Dunlop, 2.
