LOW TEMPERATURES

(II a.m.) LONDON. Jan. 29. The temperature in London at 10 p.m. last night was 19 degrees Fahrenheit, which was as low as any figure in the Air Ministry records.

The temperature in the Straits of Dover at the same hour was 17 degrees. The intense cold affected Big Ben. The second note of each phrase was missing when the clock was striking 9 p.m. Reuter’s correspondent in Hamburg says 21 persons died in Schleswig-Holstein during the January cold snaps.
