HOLLAND’S STAND

QUALIFIED SUPPORT VOICE OF SMALL NATIONS PEACE TREATY PLANS (9 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 29. Holland gave limited support to the Australian Note to associate the smaller Powers with the preparation of the Austrian and German peace treaties when the Foreign Ministers’ deputies resumed discussion on the German treaty yesterday. The chief delegate, Dr. Van Vredeburch, said that Holland felt that the small Powers should participate in all discussions of those aspects of the German problem in which they were directly and mainly concerned. Holland was directly interested in the German treaty and the western frontiers, though much less closely concerned in the eastern frontiers.

On the Austrian treaty the delegate made three procedural proposals: First, that expert committees should immediately study all technical issues connected with the German treaty, such as frontier rectification: secondly, that the knowledge and experience of Germany’s neighbour countries should be used towards a solution of the German problem; thirdly, that secondary matters should be submitted to arbitration where agreement could not be reached.
