FRENCH RETAIN HOLD

INDQ-CHINA KEY POINTS

LONG GUERRILLA WAR

SAIGON, ,Jan. 27. The Annamese rising, although long prepared and cleverly timed, has failed to shake the French hold on eight kev points, says the Times correspondent in Saigon. Reinforcements will strengthen this hold. Tlie Annamese leaders have sworn to wage a protracted guerrilla war in which the chief sufferers will be the wretched peasantry. No truce is in sight. The French are essentially on tlie defence. There is little initiative thev can take to “half-fighting,” except capitulating to the Communist VietMinh Party and agreeing to leave Indo-China, which they are not prepared to do.
