BEEF AT WESTFIELD
SHEEP VALUES RISE
BACON KEENLY SOUGHT (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Jan. 29.
Although beef was penned in less than average supply at Westfield yesterdav there was little improvement in the demand, quotations being the same ns last week. Light-weight good quality beet sold at late quotations, while heavier cattle eased in value. Small numbers of sheep came forward and values improved ‘with the keen demand and lambs also sold leadily. There was a small yarding of calves, which met a steady demand. Values for good quality runners and vealers were fully firm at late quotations. Unfinished and buckct-fcd caves being harder to dispose of. Prices for pork were maintained with a small yarding of pigs. Bacon was keenly sought at values above late lates Prices:—
Beef.—Extra choice ox sold, to £2 17s per 1001 b: choice and prime, £2 13s to £1 16s; ordinary ox, £2 9s to £2 12s; extra prime young cow and heifer beef to £2 10s: choice and prime, £2 5s to £2 9s; ordinary cow beef, £2 to £2 4s. Extra heavy prime steers made from £2l to £22 10s; heavy, £l9 15s to £2O 17s 6d; medium, £lB to £l9 10s: light, £ls 10s; extra heavy prime cows and heifers. £l3 10s to £ls ss; heavy prime cows. £l2 to £l3 7s 6d: medium, £lO 12s 6d to £ll 17s fid; light, £8 to £lO 10s; small and unfinished, £4 10s to £7 17s Od.
Sheep.—Extra heavy prime wethers, £1 19s to £2 Is; heavy, £t 17s to £1 18s fid; medium. £1 15s to £i 16s fid; light, £1 13s to £1 14s 9d; plain and unfinished, £1 7s to £1 12 fid; prime young and maiden ewes, £1 7s to £1 12s; heavy prime ewes. £1 5s to £1 6s; lighter, £1 3s to £1 4s 9d; light, £1 to £1 2s 9d; just, killiable, 13s to 19s; other ewes. 7s fid to 12s. Lambs.—Extra heavy prime lambs. £1 14s to £1 18s fid; heavy, £1 12s to £1 13s 9d; medium, £1 9s to £1 11s 9d; tighter, £1 7s to £1 8s fid; light, £1 3s to £1 6s 9d; small and plain, lfis to £1 2s fid.
