WOOL TRADE PROBLEMS
DISCUSSION BY BOARD SURVEY IN INDIA (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. There has been no improvement in the total supplies of v/oolpacks since the last meeting of the board.
It was reported at the latest meeting of the New Zealand Wool Board that supplies now being distributed have helped to meet immediate requirements, but it is evident that there will be no surplus at the end of this season, 1947-8, and the board is exploring every channel to secure sufficient woolpacks to cover next season’s clip. The full personnel of the working party which is at present in India carrying out a survey of all sections of the industry commenced investigations on December 20 and should complete the survey about the end of March.
It was reported that Miss D. Staff had been appointed as publicity officer to the board and would commence duties towards the end of February.
Advice was received from Australia that Dr. Edgar Booth, Australian representative and chairman of the International Wool Secretariat, and Dr. F. J. C. Cronje, South African representative, would be visiting Australia in March and April and it was decided to invite both these gentlemen to visit New Zealand before they return to London.
