CALL AT PITCAIRN
VESSEL FROM LONDON attention to girl (P A) WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. Making her first voyage as the Rakaia in the New' Zealand Shipping Company’s service that 8563-ton motor vessel, formerly the Empire Abercorn, arrived at Wellington yesterday with 47 passengers and a big cargo from London.
The ship put into Pitcairn in response to a call for help for a girl who had injured her back. She was taken aboard from a whaler and an examination by the ship’s doctor revealed that the girl was badly bruised but not seriously injured. The Rakaia carries 5900 tons of general cargo from London and about 3200 tons of rails, fishplates and tic plates which were loaded at Antwerp for the New' Zealand railways. This material had been used in the invasion of Europe and will be discharged when the Rakaia completes unloading at Auckland.
Passengers said the food and accommodation in the Rakaia were good and comfortable.
