Vote of Condolence

A large gathering of farmers bared their heads apd stood in silence to the memory of the late Mr. V. P. Boot, fields instructor to the Department of Agriculture, Gisborne, when they met on Saturday afternoon for a field day at the Manutuke research station. Before the tour of inspection the veterinary surgeon of the Gisborne Veterinary Club. Mr. R. Crawford, by whom the day was sponsored, paid a tribute to the work of Mr. Boot, who was to have taken part in the demonstration. Fort Revenue Improves

“The cash position to-day is quite gratifying. The trade returns show in increase of 208 tons of imports and 1292 tons of exports, while cash receipts are up £1270 and expenditure down £531,” said the chairman of the Gisborne Harbour Board, Mr. A. J. Nicol, at yesterday’s meeting of the board. Other members expressed satisfaction with the improvement in the position shown by the report of the secretary, Mr. E. A. Khull. and Mr. C. H. Williams commented that this was the first report showing an improvement for six or seven yeai-s. Mr. R. G. Clare pointed out that part of the improvement was due to the shipment coastwise of a quantity of held-over wool.
