CHOICE FOR 1949
NATIONAL REGATTA WAIROA NOMINATION UNSURPASSED CONDITIONS An indication that the East Coast Rowing Association will seek the allocation of the New Zealand championship regatta for the 1948-49 season, and if successful in its application will stage it on the Wairoa River, was given by the chairman of the association Mr. A. Kirk, in making the presentations of district trophies to successful clubs following Saturday's district regatta in Wairoa. Commenting on the conditions which had prevailed throughout the long day's programme, Mr. Kirk stated that he knew of no location where a better course could be offered than that on the Wairoa River.
In his capacity as delegate to the New Zealand Rowing Council, he had made preliminary inquiries as to the location of the national championships for 1949. and had been assured that the Wairoa River would be inspected by a special committee of the New Zealand council in order to ascertain its advantages. “If we get that regatta, it will give your members something to train for," added Mr Kirk addressing the captains of the respective clubs. He thought a number of the young oarsmen seen in action during the day would, with the exerience of the next couple of seasons. quality to take a prominent part in any regatta anywhere.
