Dr. L Mnndel a Harley street physician, has reuirned to New Zealand 38 years after his last visit and 45 years after he went to England for the first time.

Mr. H. Seddon Hills, Lower Hult, has been appointed Dominion headquarters commissioner of the Scout movement in New Zealand. He has been assistant commissioner since May.— P.A

The Rev. E. D. Gill, honorary palaeontologist at Melbourne University, a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Gill, Gisborne, arrived at Auckland by flying-boat on Thursday to spend a six weeks’ vacation in the Dominion. With Dr. B. H. Mason, geology lecturer at Canterbury University College, he will visit Reefton and the Baton River to study rocks of the Devonian Age similar to those found in Australia.

Present at yesterday’s meeting of the PB. Electric-Power Board were Messrs F. R. Ball, chairman. A. A. Fraser, B J. Holdsworth, F. Tolerton. J. E. Benson, G D. Muirhead and R. L. Gray. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs M. T. Trafford,, J. Pi. Hall and PI L. Tempest. At the close oi the meeting the board’s compliments to the staff and to the press were expressed by Mr. Ball, who spoke for the board in noting the pleasant relations which had existed throughout the past year Better known than any admiral to thousands of New Zealanders who serve 1 in Britain on' loan to the Royal Navy in the Second World War, a modest London civilian arrived at Auckland on Thursday on his first visit to the Dominion He is Mr. S R. Skinner, New Zealand nav-d affairs officer in Britain Ihroughout the war and former chief clerk at New Zealand House. Mr. Skinner, who was a naval godfather to New Zealand officers and ratings throughout fheir service abroad, said .that only a handful of New Zealanders now remained with ‘'m “'oval Navy in Britain. They were men who had volunteered for additional service and included Captain A D. PTolden C.8.E., R.N.Z.N.R who commands a flotilla of mine-sweepers working from the north of Scotland.—(P A.)
