LAND PURCHASE RULES AREAS IN PALESTINE MILLIONS IN FUNDS (10.30 a.m.) LONDON. Dec. 20. It was disclosed at the World Zionist Congress that, despite the 1040 regulations restricting the Jewish right to buy land in Palestine, Jewish sources have financed a fund with which 100.000 acres have been purchased since 1939. Dr. Abraham Granovsky, chairman of the fund, who made the announcement, admitted the fund "had always based its land buying activities on political considerations in order to strengthen the Jewish foothold in cverv area which stood in danger of being cut off from Palestine."
He revealed that the fund had collected £10.500.000 since its inception, of which £3,500,000 had been collected .this year. He described the restrictions upon Jewish land purchases as “part of the British Government’s strangulating policy" and asserted they were hampering the economic development of Palestine. The American Zionists attending the congress are reported to have been “o’uragcd” bv Dr. Chaim Wcizmann’s criticism of their activities in the present controversy and; as a result, a serious split is threatened in the world Zionist ranks. Dr. Wcizmann is beloved to have strengthened his claims for re-election as president bv bis recent addresses, but to have lost important American support as a resin.t of his outspokenness.
