LONDON PRESS CALL FOR STATEMENT “CONCERN OF COMMONWEALTH PEOPLE” (Special Correspondent.) (10 a.m.) LONDON. December 10. Mr. A. J. Cummings, writing in the Daily Express says: —“The time lias come when the British public should he given some explicit information about the persistent rumours of the intended engagement of the Princess Elizabeth to Prince Philip of Greece. “The marriage of the future Sovereign is her own intimate concern, hut it is also the very real concern of the people of the Britisli Commonwealth; “Has the advice of the Prime Minister been sought as to the suitability of such a match in the public interest? “Has the Prime Minister consulted any of the Dominions’ representatives or any of his colleagues or any of the Parliamentary rank and file in order to discover what is the probable public reaction; “This is not a trivial issue. The British Throne has never been held in such good esteem as to-day. It is of the utmost importance that the strong Jinks of mutual confidence should he preserved.”
