TRIBUTE TO FARMER

BLEDISLOE MEDAL WON N. AUCKLAND SUCCESS (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 11. The Bledisloe Medal for 1946 has been awarded to Mr. A. Briscoe Moore, of Mangaroa, Piniwai, 27 miles inland from Whangarei. In approving the award the board of governors of Canterbury Agricultural College at Lincoln expressed the view that Mr. Moore richly deserved the distinction for his own farming efforts, and for his public service in advancing agriculture. Mr. Moore attended Canterbury Agricultural College from 1908 to 1910, taking a diploma, and then spent two and a half years in South Canterbury and three years in North Otago on small farms. He had three years’ service overseas with the Auckland Mounted Rifles and on his return took a block of 1900 acres of virgin bush country at Pipiwai. This ho lias cleared and developed, building his homestead from timber on the property, until now his farm has about 1500 acres in grass and carries 2000 sheep and 270 cattle. A recommendation to the award says that he has shown the potentialities of North Auckland bush and gumland.
