• 129 FOR two wickets QUEENSLAND COUNTRY 228 SMITH BOWLS WELL (10 a.m.) BRISBANE, Dec. 3. The M.C.C. _ team is well placed against a combined Queensland country side when it started a two-day match on Saturday morning. The Englishmen shifted the Country players—who were drawn from ail parts of the State between Ipswich in the south-east corner to Cairns In the far north —for 208 runs which were brightly made in only 147 minutes. The Country players used a long handle against the English bowlers, but the small boundaries fore and aft the wickets were naturally an aid to rapid scoring. M.C.C. lost the toss but were at the wickets by 3 o'clock for a splendid start by Gibb and Fishlock who put on 82 for the first wicket before Gibb was, run out. The crowd totalled about 4000.
