High Commissioner tor New Zealand in Australia, is paying a short unofficial visit to New Zealand He has been to Canterbury to sec his brother, who is in ill-health and was in Wellington yesterday. Wicksteed, Waitara, a returned soldier of the 1939-45 war, has been appointed secretary of the New Plymouth Returned Services’ Association in succession to Mr. E. .L Carr, who has retired because of ill-health.

Mr. A. E. Mansford, who has been Mayor of Palmerston North for 1G years, has reaffirmed his decision not tc contest the next mayoralty election.
