LAUNCHING FAILURE
WELLINGTON OIL BARGE (P A ) WELLINGTON. Nov. 19. Defying the combined efforts of the tug Terawhiti and an army of men using jacks and crowbars, the 450 ton deadweight of steel of the oil barge Hinupnhi. built in the yards of tile Patent Slip Company at Evans Bay, Wellington, refused to move down the slipway into the sea at the appointed time yesterday, though all the formalities o 'f the breaking of a bottle of wine and pulling of levers had been duly observed. The appointed time was 12.30 pin., which conformed to the most favourable state of the tide, and efforts to Snove the hull continued until an hour later without avail. The launching was abandoned for the present. No idea could be given when it will be effected though it was suggested it might not be until next month. The barge which has been built for the Union Steam Ship Company, is to supply oil to ships loading or discharging at Wellington wharves. It has a capacity of 1500 tons of oil and her displacement fully loaded will approach 2000 tons. Of welded steel plating, she has provision on her deck for comfortable quarters for a caretaker.
