OIL-BURNING LOCOS

TRIAL ON MAIN TRUNK (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 18. The first of two K class locomotives being converted to oil burners is expected to be operating on the Pae-kakariki-Taihape section of the Main Trunk within six to eight weeks. It was originally intended that these new types of locomotives wouM -•■’■st operate between Auckland and Frankton, but this proposal has been abandoned. Only two engines are to be converted to oil burning until it is found whether this is successful. The conversion of other locomotives may follow.

Oil tanks for refuelling will have to be erected at Paekakariki and Taihape.
