ARMY DESERTERS
YEAR’S IMPRISONMENT (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. 18. A sentence of one year’s imprisonment with hard labour imposed on Private Joseph Driscoll by a courtmartial at Burnham last Thursday for desertion has been promulgated. Driscoll, who spent more than three years in the South Westland bush af ter deserting on November 11, 1942, has also to make up £5 17s 6d for kit deficiencies.
Private Howard Alexander Martin, who deserted on March 21, 1944, and also appeared before the court-martial on Thursday has been sentenced to one year's imprisonment without hard labour and ordered to make up kit deficiencies amounting 1o £5 17s (id.
