EX-SERVICEMEN’S BENEFIT SURPLUS CANTEEN FUNDS CANBERRA, July 20. The A.I.F. canteen funds, which were expected to be between £3.500.000 and £4,000,000. would be transferred to a trust for servicemen and their dependants, said the Prime Minister. Mr. .1. B. Chifley, in the House of Representatives. It was contemplated that provision would be made for educational assistance for chidrcn of deceased and incapacitated ex-servicemen and other necessitous and deserving cases. An inter-departmental committee was now working out machinery for creating a trust for these* purposes. Meantime, action had been taken to enable cases requiring immediate assistance to be provided from the surplus canteen funds.
