WAIROA RUGBY

NUHAKA—WHAKAKI GAME, The interest in the Rugby fixture, Nuhaka v. Whakaki. to be played in Whakaki on Saturday in connection with the Wairoa Rugby Sub-Union’s senior competition is very keen, Nuhaka at present having a lead of one point over Whakaki. Mr. Cyril Brownlie, the former well-known All Black, is coaching Nuhaka, whilst Peter Smith, who is also well known in Rugbv football circles, is in charge of the Whakaki fifteen. Both teams are in daily training, and never before has so much enthusiasm been displayed in a fixture which takes place so early in the season. At the weekly meeting of the Wairoa Rugby Sub-Union the decision of the Hawke’s Bay Rugbv Union to allot the Maori trial game for players in the Bay to Wairoa was received with enthusiasm and it was decided to accept the date suggested. August 3. However, the opinion was expressed that the Wairoa district could possibly secure better results if the northern end of the district was. confined to the Wniroa County only and Napier had been included in the southern districts.
