Dr. Cedric W. Isaac, of Tc Kuiti, who is leaving this week to reside in Gisborne, was accorded a civic farewell in appreciation of his services to the town in various capacities for over 17 years. Both lie and Mrs. Isaac were the recipients of presentations.

Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P.. and Mrs. Coleman left Gisborne this morning |or Wellington. Mr. Coleman will attend a meeting of the. Labour Party called for to-morrow, and will take the opportunity of attending to several matters of interest to his electorate while in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Coleman intend to return to Gisborne to-morrow week.

On a short visit to New Zealand, Brigadier W. G. Gentry, D. 5.0.. 0.8. E., arrived at Auckland from Sydney by (lying-boat on Saturday. 'Brigadier Gentry is the New Zealand representative on the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Australia, the body which is charged with .tlie planning of the British Commonwealth occupation force in Japan. He declined to make any comment on the occupation force. Brigadier Gentry flew to Wellington yesterday. He expects to return to Australia in about a week.
