AIR TRAINING
EDUCATION SERVICE WORK OF DIRECTOR MINISTER'S TRIBUTE (P.A.) DUNEDIN. April 15. It was announced by the Minister of Defence, Mr. F. Jones, that the director of the R.N.Z.A.F. educational services. Wing Commander E. Caradus, 0.8. E., had been released by the R.N.Z.A.F. and transferred to the reserve. Making the announcement, the Minister expressed appreciation of the action of the Minister of Education, Mr. I-I. G. R. Mason, in releasing Wing Commander Caradus to the Air Force over such a lengthy period. Prior to the war Wing Commander Caradus was senior inspector of secondary schools and lie lias now returned to that appointment, although he will continue to maintain his association with the R.N.Z.A.F. in the capacity of educational advisor of the Air Department. On the outbreak of the war Wing Commander Caradus was responsible lor the introduction of the _ pre-entry scheme of Air Force training which this country put into operation and which served ns a model for similar schemes in other parts of the Empire. As illustrating the success of the scheme the Minister mentioned that a total of 20,436 air crew had been handled bv the educational services during the war period and that ot these 18,345 had passed the R.N.Z.A.t. examination.
The R.N.Z.A.F. general education scheme will still _ continue in the interim air force in order to assist personnel enlisting now on their return to citizenship and civil employment.
