GISBORNE CRICKET BEST FORM BY COLTS GOOD BATTING FIGURES The season of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association closed on Saturday afternoon with the \yicket6 in good condition and the outfield fast for the final matches. * G.H.5.0.8. had a first innings victory over High School. The old students retired with eight wickets down for 198 runs, the topscorer being Slade with 93. High School were out for 110 runs. Roderick captured seven wickets for 26 runs. In the Civil Service match against Marist, the former team won on the first innings. Marist put on 106 runs of which Gardner and Conole contributed 40 and 39 respectively. Newton took three wickets for 12 and Stokes four for 11. Civil Service replied with 168 runs. Watson was run out after a knock of 40 runs and W. Blair scored 36. C. Scholium took five wickets for 57 runs. The Colts had a first innings victory over Nomads. Nomads were all out for S 3 runs and Colts returned a total of 186. The Colts top-scorer was Fyson with 77, and Barry put on 31 runs before his wicket fell l.b.w. to Niven.

There was no championship competition this season. The best showing during the year was registered by the Colls team, an eleven that has been sponsored by the association to encourage promising young players. It is the intention of the association to re-commence the championship competitions next season. At the afternoon adjournment the president of the association. Mr. P. C. Dwyer, thanked the players, umpires and lady supporters for their continued- interest in the sport. He remarked that the ground had been much improved during the playing season and attributed it to the use of the new mechanical equipment which should have the grounds in excellent shape for next year. Mr. Dwyer took the opportunity of welcoming back ex-servicemen players who had been returning to their clubs at various stages throughout f f-!i<=nn.
