YOUTHS' LONG SWIM

"When a Takapuna-class boat capsized on the Tauranga Harbour on Sunday evening the two occupants had a gruelling experience. There was a fairly rough sea running and, as it was getting dark, the two youths decided to abandon the boat and swim for the (•beach at Otumoetai, taking with them lithe spinnaker boom to assist them to 'keep afloat. They were in the water for well over an hour and were in an exhausted condition when they reached the beach. They were assisted by a resident and later were taken to their homes. The boat was recovered later.
